Australia has been one of the first places where tennis became popular. The country has produced some of the greatest male and female tennis stars like Margaret Court, Rod Laver, and Roy Emerson, etc. They dominated the game in Open Era days, as well as in the early years after it. In the current ATP and WTA circuits, many young and talented Australian tennis players could emerge as future legends of the game. They are already winning big titles and important matches.
Ash Barty: Australian Tennis Players
The current world number 1 in women’s tennis ranks at the top of Australian tennis players in the current circuit, Barty was the best player of 2019 as she won Roland Garros and WTA year-end finale along with the Premier Mandatory title at Miami Open. After her 2019 French Open victory, Barty broke the 41 years barren run for female Australian tennis players to lift a Grand Slam title. The last one to do so was Chris O’Neil in the 1978 Australian Open.
Ash Barty has a wonderful all-round game. She has proved her worth on hard as well as clay courts. The talented starlet is yet to perform remarkably on the grass courts. Her records in doubles are also very impressive, where she has already won a Grand Slam at the 2018 US Open. Barty has also finished as a finalist in the other three slams in the doubles category. Her great talent, along with strong determination, can pave the way to become one of the greatest Australian tennis players.
Few Australian tennis players or other young stars on the ATP tour are blessed with such an outrageous talent as Nick Kyrgios. The supremely talented right-hander who, at times, lacks the motivation to push harder and stay focussed is naturally gifted in many ways. Currently ranked as world number 40, Kyrgios has had the highest career rankings of number 13 in the singles category. He has the potential to be world number 1 and multiple Grand Slam winner.
Nick has won 6 career titles so far, with the biggest of them being 4 ATP 500s at the Tokyo Open, China Open, Mexican Open, and the Washington Open. Kyrgios is one of the few young tennis players who have beaten Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic. His best showing at the Grand Slam level has been a quarter-final appearance at Wimbledon and the Australian Open. Many tennis experts regard Nick Kyrgios as one of the most naturally gifted Australian tennis players ever produced.
Alex de Minuar
The 21-year-old is among the most talented emerging Australian tennis players in the ATP circuit. De Minuar has so far won 3 singles career titles, all of them being the 250 level events. He has been progressing very fast in the last couple of years. He also represented Australia in the ATP cup held in January 2020.
