Rafael Nadal has just celebrated his 34th birthday. The current world’s number 2 has so far won 19 Grand Slams in his illustrious career. This is one of the great tennis records in the Open Era. Rafa still lags behind his greatest rival, Roger Federer, who leads the list with 20 slams. With the Spanish lefty four years younger than his Swiss rival, he has a great chance to top the list. The King of Clay has already won 5 majors since his 2017 comeback.

Rafael Nadal’s absolute dominance over the French Open remains intact. He is also looking great at the US Open. In Australia, Nadal reached the finals twice since 2017. He has also improved his showing at Wimbledon, where the Spaniard reached back to back semis in 2018 and 2019. It puts Rafa in an ideal position to achieve one of the great tennis records. He also looks very determined to achieve this feat.

In his great collection of 19 major titles, Rafael Nadal has won 12 French Open, 4 US Open, and 2 Wimbledon trophies. In the Australian Open, the great champion has won just 1 title. He did this in 2009 while defeated the archrival Roger Federer in a titanic five-setter. It was Nadal’s 1st ever final down under. He has never been successful at Melbourne Park since then.

Rafa has reached the Australian Open finals four times since his great victory in 2009. He has sadly finished at the losing end in all these attempts. Nadal lost two finals to Djokovic, one to Wawrinka, and one to Roger Federer in the last decade. Winning one more championship in Australia would make Rafa the 2nd male player in Open Era to complete a career Grand Slam. It is one of the great tennis records that the Spaniard is chasing for the last many years.

If there was one big tournament where Rafael Nadal has not looked at his best, it is the Nitto ATP season-ending finale. The tournament is played on indoor hard courts, which is Rafa’s least favorable surface. Nadal has reached the finals there twice but never been able to cross the line. He would like to win at least one trophy there. It would make Nadal the only other player besides Andre Agassi to win all four Slams, an Olympic singles  Gold Medal and an ATP season-ending finale. It is one of the great tennis records, famously known as the super slam.

Rafael Nadal has been one of the most inspiring tennis players. His will to win, determination to improve, and humble attitude has led the legend to achieve many great tennis records. He still looks hungry for a few more.
