Tennis Champions: Born Or Made

Is Tennis A Real Sport?

What on Earth helps players in becoming tennis champions? Do they train themselves a lot, or are they under good coaches? Or do champions have specific inborn potentials that determine their success? What is it?

Do you remember some kids in class who used to have answers to the toughest of math sums? It is just that they were God-gifted with math skills. They were smarter than the other kids. The classes helped them develop their God-gifted skills to higher levels through additional training. The same goes for tennis as well.

How Are Tennis Champions Made?

Students in a class can be of two categories. Some students are not able to take in instructions even if coaches explain the matter over and over again. On the other hand, some students are not just good at taking in all instructions but also can grab high-level instructions. But how is it so? It is because the second batch of students had this innate skill and talent for understanding things quickly.

The same is the case with tennis except that the game is a bit more complicated. Geniuses in mathematics are brilliant at solving questions. However, they will not have excellent skills in history, languages, and various other subjects. Nevertheless, if individuals want to be good at tennis, they need to be par average in different skills. These include physical skills like speed and stamina and technical skills like serve, backhand, and forehand. They should also work on acquiring mental skills.

Skills Possessed By Players Make Them Tennis Champions

When it comes to becoming a champion in tennis, players need to possess some skills already. They should be gifted or talented in all the skills mentioned above. Nevertheless, it is only through proper coaching and training that they can ultimately develop their potentials.

On the other hand, if players do not possess the skills needed in tennis, they will not be able to reach higher levels no matter how hard they train themselves.

Training Under Great Coaches Cannot Help If You Lag In Tennis Skills

Consider the different tennis academies offering top-quality tennis programs. These institutions are creating several talented young tennis players. But, are these youngsters successful? Have they made a position for themselves in the world tennis player rankings? Considering the world-class training they receive at these academies, by now they should have dominated the WTA and ATP tours, isn’t it? Why are these players, not champions?

This is because they lack specific skills or gifts or natural talent. They do not have anyone or two or maybe many of the essential skills needed for becoming world champions. So, even if they are training under the best coaches in the best of conditions, they are unable to achieve success. To be very specific, they reach their limits, and you cannot force them into attaining something that they possibly cannot. Training and coaching will simply develop the skills already possessed by players. However, the limits of these skills cannot be increased.
