The WTA was founded on the principle of equal opportunity for women in sports by Billie Jean King in 1973. The WTA is at the pinnacle in women’s professional sport with more than 2,500 players representing 100 nations. 

September 1970 saw the birth of women’s professional tennis when nine players signed $1 contracts to compete in a new women’s tour, the Virginia Slims Series. Slowly it grew in popularity and became as we know it today. Now we’re gonna talk about the best female tennis players by rank:

1. Naomi Osaka:

Japanese by origin, Naomi Osaka is the reigning champion in women’s singles at the US Open and the Australian Open. She is rated No. 1  by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). She has secured three titles and reached five finals on the WTA Tour.

 A serve by her was timed at an astonishing 201.1km/h  in the 2016 US Open !!

2. Simona Halep:

Currently rated world No. 2 on the wta tour, Simona Halep has won 18 WTA singles titles. She has also finished as a runner-up 15 times. A Romanian by nationality, Simona Halep was ranked world No. 1 in singles on two different occasions between 2017 and 2019. The first occasion was on October 9, 2017. She held the No.1 ranking for 48 weeks straight on her second occasion.

3.Petra Kvitova:

Petra Kvitova, a professional tennis player of Czech origin, is known for her powerful left-handed groundstrokes and variety.

She has won 26 career singles titles including two Grand Slam titles and the Wimbledon Championships in 2011 and 2014. She is currently ranked world no. 3 by the WTA. She is presently the highest ranked Czech player and the highest rated left-handed player in the world.

4. Carolina Pliskova:

She is also a Czech tennis player currently ranked at world no. 4. Carolina has won five doubles and twelve singles titles on the WTA tour. She has also won 10 singles and six doubles titles on the ITF circuit in her career.

5. Angelique Kerber:

Angelique Kerber is a German professional tennis player born on 18-Jan-1988 currently ranked at world No. 5 by the Women’s Tennis Association(wta). She started playing tennis since she was 3 years old and turned to professional tennis in 2003. She is sponsored by numerous reputed brands such as Adidas, Yonex, Porsche, Rolex, etc. She too is a lefthander and plays a two-handed backhand.
